LGBTQ+ Healthcare in Akron

Akron Children’s Center for Gender Affirming Medicine offers well care, education, mental health coordination and support for LGBTQ+ youth. Its published pathway offers assessment and possible hormone treatment for patients age 19 and older, with follow-up through age 24. Patients under 19 are offered supportive and well-care services. A therapist’s letter of support will likely be needed before medical treatment.

Equitas Health is one of the largest LGBTQ+-serving health systems in the United States, and the Short North location provides comprehensive primary care, gender-affirming hormone therapy, HIV care, PrEP, STI testing, mental health counseling, and pharmacy services. The organization accepts most insurance including Medicaid and offers a sliding-scale fee for income-eligible patients. Saturday morning appointments are available to accommodate working patients.
